Consultations regarding the renovation of the dormitory on Mechaników Street. Residents learned the details of the project.
Consultations regarding the modernization of the school dormitory building on Mechaników Street were held in Włocławek. A meeting with students and staff took place at the school's headquarters at the end of November. Forty-seven people attended, including city representatives, designers, and the dormitory director.
The meeting was preceded by a discussion of the objectives of the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Program, which will finance the investment. Vice Mayor Jarosław Zdanowski emphasized the importance of the renovation in improving students' living conditions. He also noted that Włocławek is among the cities requiring remedial action, and that improving the quality of educational infrastructure has a real impact on socio-economic development.
The dormitory director, Wojciech Kobielski, explained that the building will have to be closed for the duration of the work. Students will be relocated to three temporary locations within the city. The rules for student allocation will be established in conjunction with the dormitory council.
The designers presented the scope of the planned renovation. It includes the construction of a new staircase, modernization of rooms on all floors, modernization of the kitchen and dining hall, renovation of the utilities, and a comprehensive package of work aimed at improving energy efficiency. The building is to be a passive building. The documentation calls for the installation of a heat pump and over 100 photovoltaic panels. The rooms will feature new windows and natural ventilation with power assistance. The kitchen and dining hall will be air-conditioned.
After the presentation, a discussion began. Students and educators pointed to the need for more parking spaces. They also suggested the construction of an additional sidewalk to reduce damage to the lawn. The idea of creating a recreational area with bonfire facilities and, in the future, an outdoor gym was also raised.
Attendees inquired about the possibility of building balconies, but the designers explained that such a solution was not an option for safety reasons. However, assurances were given that the existing fence would be renovated and its appearance would remain unchanged.
Internet-related issues generated considerable interest. It was announced that each room would have Ethernet cable access. The principal also announced efforts to install fiber optic cable.
Participants positively assessed the appearance of the planned facade and interior finishes. Students expressed their desire to retain the triple rooms with private bathrooms. They also emphasized the need to retain the existing relaxation lounge. They also agreed that the building needed new electrical wiring and more power outlets.
The consultations also yielded the idea of painting a mural on the gable wall. A design competition will be announced after the project is completed.
After the discussion, participants took a tour of the building. The designer discussed in detail the planned changes to the rooms, bathrooms, and hallways. He highlighted the floor installations and finishing methods that will facilitate potential maintenance.
The consultations indicate that the dormitory residents largely accept the proposed solutions. The comments primarily concerned the functionality of the space, the organization of life in the facility after the renovation, and the use of the surrounding areas. The report emphasises that the submitted proposals constitute an important contribution to the further stage of work on the investment.
